Really Good Emails is the internet’s premier showcase of beautiful and innovative email design, with an impressively curated collection of designs from all over the world in a completely free and open format. They teamed up with me to strengthen their playful brand tone through a holistic approach of illustration, iconography, and design.
In partnership with an email personalization software, Really Good Emails includes dynamic image-based content in their digital newsletters. I worked to create illustrations to enhance that dynamic content, be it a countdown timer, email recipient callout, or something else.
Enhancing the Brand Identity
Early on, we identified the Really Good Emails logo “smiley” as a recognizable visual that was emblematic of the brand’s voice and a great seed for future illustration. After a test run of a few character illustrations centering around the RGE smile, we continued to build out a library of fun new characters showcased in emails, on the site, and in merchandise.
The Really Good Emails website is the hub of the brand, and making it a place to surprise and delight visitors was a big priority. I created spot illustration elements, hidden mouseover states, and even pop culture-referential 404 page animations to deepen the user experience.
